‘It Lives Inside,’ a supernatural horror thriller, marks director Bishal Dutta’s feature debut. The story centers on Sam, an Indian-American teenager who accidentally releases a demon that thrives on her former best friend’s loneliness. To confront this malevolent entity, Sam must embrace her Indian heritage. While the film’s premise is promising, it falls short in execution, feeling derivative and overly cautious. Nonetheless, ‘It Lives Inside’ remains watchable and somewhat entertaining, largely due to Suri’s strong performance as Sam. Bajwa and Gabriel deliver emotionally rich supporting roles, and Dutta successfully builds a creepy atmosphere filled with tension. The film relies heavily on jump scares, some of which are ineffective. While it commendably represents Indian culture in a horror context, it fails to deliver the expected chills.
